Ganjifa: Typographic Invitation Meets Gameplay

  • Challenge: Reviving a forgotten tradition through modern design.
  • Solution: A foldable poster that acts as an invitation and a pre-game experience.
  • Scope: Can be used for brand activations, heritage promotions, luxury packaging, and cultural campaigns.
Ganjifa, originally a Persian card game, evolved into a rich Indian folk tradition. Deeply intertwined with mythology, astrology, and artistic craftsmanship, the game represents fate, hierarchy, and cosmic alignment.

This foldable typographic poster reimagines Ganjifa through expressive typography—restoring its cultural significance via an interactive poster that doubles as a game invitation, functioning as both a storytelling artefact and a campaign-led print experience.

This design is an interplay of typography, game mechanics, and celestial storytelling. Inspired by the Navagraha (nine planets), the design uses orbiting text, hierarchy-based folds, and circular motifs to mimic gameplay and astrological movements.

How Typography Translates the Game :

🔶Circular Motifs – Represent Ganjifa’s traditional round cards and planetary orbits.

🔶Hierarchy in Folding – The folding mechanism forms 2 types of SUN MOTIFS – Just as in Ganjifa, higher-ranked cards remain dominant, reinforcing the game’s strategic nature.

🔶Celestial Typography – The back of the poster follows the Kundali structure, with typographic glyphs forming planetary symbols.
